I made this TARDIS box for pinkmichk in the Geeky Swap
since one of her themes was Dr. Who.
I made it out of birch plywood with basswood strips for the trim. It's six inches wide and about fourteen inches tall.
The little nubs are to keep the top in place. I wanted it to light up, so I dismantled a cheap tap-light and found this:
I had to take a set of garden clippers to it to make it fit under the top, and I cut a hole in the bottom and stuck the switch through it so pinkmichk could turn it on and off and change the batteries without taking the whole thing apart.
I made the light from part of a pen, a few toothpicks, and one of those wooden button thingies.
The box stays closed with a magnet and a thumbtack.
The smallest hinges I could find at the hardware store came with screws that were longer than the thickness of the plywood, so I just glued the hinges on with E6000 and figured that would be enough. Unfortunately, the door broke off as I was packing everything up for shipping.
I ended up using the screws after all, but I had to cut them in half with wire cutters and make pilot holes with a tiny tiny screwdriver since I don't own a drill. The door should be a lot stronger now, and I'm glad it broke before it got to pinkmichk, so I could fix it.
