I made this a bit ago for a company wide art show. I thought I'd show it off here because I really enjoy it (as do many of my patients - -I work in mental health)! It created quite a controvery at the art show. Let me know what you think....

yes, those are real (but very old) Prozac around the edge!

all around the edges I wrote, "What would Freud do? with Prozac? with brief therapy? with Zoloft? with managed care? with Paxil? with EMDR? with HMOs? with group therapy? with Xanax? Would he be out of business?  And then on the back of the box I wrote, "you bet!!"  Tongue

It got Honorable Mention, BTW.

I love this, because the controversial issues do need to be talked about, and also because I love reading up on psychology, psychitry, etc.  Also, it reminds me of a running in joke in my group of friends, about the movie Drop Dead Fred needing a sequel called Drop Dead Freud, where some neurotic person's imaginary friend was Freud and he kept popping up telling them why they did tthe things that they did, and asking, How do you feel?

Something kind of like that has been done. Dudley Moore played a psychiatrist who was being visited by the ghost of Freud in an old romantic comedy called Lovesick.

As a mental health worker, i have to say I LOVE this piece. I think it would be great to expand upon as well and use in different ways.

It think that's great. I had to stop and think for a while before I could understand how that could possibly be controversial. It just seemed so obviously true... Wink

hey everyone, thanks for the compliments!!

as for the controversy, it came from two directions. first of all some RN freaked because i put real Prozac on the piece. she was worried people were going to steal the prozac.  they moved the piece behind glass after she complained.

the second thing was that the videographer for the show made some comment on ripping off WWJD and how he found that offensive.

no one seemed to care that i was poking fun (but making serious points!) at Freud. my colleagues loved it!

i think it would make a fun t-shirt!!  great idea!!
