I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

The beginning of a new term is always so exciting because, like the end of term, everyone is conjuring up so many magical projects. Love that!

Headmistress pinkleo: I knew your first project would be for S.P.E.W.! Keep channeling your inner Hermione; the world needs you!

Audania: THAT will be one impressive NEWT. Can't wait to see the end result!

BadWolf:  Shocked! Amazing Lego Quilt! And your next O.W.L.? I'm going to steal it.

gaudiknight: You shall be sorely missed in the Ravenclaw Tower, but never feel bad about having waffled between the Houses because waffles are delicious. Good luck on your quilt, it looks lovely!

Ant Bee:  What a gas!  Cheesy (that's punny!) Cute subject for your equally cute helm.

noodle-bug: yay for Team Dobby! Your Pi stripes hat is wonderful...love the colours.

Acadian Driftwood: such a pretty bird purse! I like the birdie on the clasp.

Nicajeanie: your granny square is so shimmery looking!

margaron: giant.crocheted.snuggie. Best thing ever.

cousenl: cute twitterpated piece! I suspect it is for a loved one?

Magpirate: Holy colourful butt pad, Batman! That's gorgeous!

rockmygypsysoul: cannot even tell you how much I want to see your female form study. What a brilliant idea.

ErinAquaheart: DapperApple is just so fantastic. Glad to see more!

Class: Arithmancy  (there are 8 ingredients)
SPEW: n/a
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Super Secret Ingredient French Toast
Brief Description: My assignment began last week when kid2 asked me to show him how to make French toast. This was an odd request, because he's never shown an interest in cooking. Whatever, I'll take the bonding time. Turns out, he presented the recipe to his school, which was having a breakfast food contest, and he won! Tomorrow he gets to prepare his "Secret Ingredient French Toast" for the breakfasting high schoolers and will be on the news. Tonight he prepped for his first public culinary experience by making the recipe for his sisters (even though the grocery was out of the intended bread). Here's my secret recipe sssshhhhhh....it's a secret!

Ingredients: Makes about 10-12 slices

sliced White Mountain bread
5 eggs
splash of orange juice, from zested orange
splash of milk
about 1/4 cup (secret ingredient) International Delight Vanilla Coffee Creamer
zest of 1/2 an orange, or to taste
cinnamon/sugar mixture
whole nutmeg or a pinch of ground nutmeg

Preheat griddle to 350.
Crack eggs a la Alton Brown (NOT on the edge of the dish, but on the counter!) into shallow dish and beat til combined. Add a splash of milk, splash of OJ, and coffee creamer, whisk til uniform in colour. It'll be pale buttery yellow. Add orange rind, and sprinkle cinnamon/sugar mix on top. Grate a bit of nutmeg with a microplane (or sprinkle ground) over mixture. Not too much! Dip slice of white mountain bread into mixture, turn over, then add to hot griddle. Repeat until bread, or mixture, is gone. I usually add more cinnamon/sugar to the mixture after every third bread slice. Also, it is best to lay your bread out the night before or use day old bread. Unless you like floppy French toast, and that's okay too. Here's kid2's toast tonight, using white Italian bread, which I don't recommend because it's just wrong.

NOOOOO!!!! My picture won't upload!!!!! I'll be back in a minute.
Got it! Kid2 kept slapping me when I attempted to "garnish" his toast. I gotta learn to let them grow up and do things themselves.  Sad

I love Acadian Driftwood's bag! :D

ErinAquaheart, the wood texture is really amazing on those baseball bats!  Do you have a method for that technique?

Class: History of Magic
SPEW: n/a
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Poppies
Project Page: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=432019.0#axzz2v7i6M2cD (this has the poppies as well as a Dalmatian I painted separately)
Brief Description: Poppies, such a distinct but simple flower, are one of my favorite symbols and have a rich history.  They can symbolize death but also may mean sleep or, more wonderfully, pain relief.  Poppy seeds produce opium which in turn is used in certain pain relief drugs like morphine.  While I have never used any opioids and fully respect the power of those drugs, I likewise know that the development of certain, safer prescription drugs have evolved from how opium works.  As a person with multiple chronic pain conditions and related insomnia, I completely appreciate the symbolism of sleep and pain relief.

Plus poppies are just so freaking adorable.

This is oil on canvas using a pointillism/impasto/tube painting technique for which I'm confident there's a real term but I don't have the first clue what it is, I just started playing around one day and really loved the effect.  That said, since there's no dilution, you go through the paint SO fast plus now, between this and another one I did, my hand hurts  Cheesy
