This week's Project Quilting Challenge was "Across the Universe".  I spent days with no idea and no plan.  Finally on Wednesday, I decided I would use the big star tutorial from Jenny Doan to make a bed quilt for me.  (I'm still using my Christmas version so it is time for a change.)

I grabbed a bunch of blue fabrics with stars and a great white on white print covered with numbers.  (I was still hung upon 42 as the theme for my quilt.)
I got started on Wednesday evening and worked until I discovered that I did not have enough white fabric.

So Thursday's piecing was interrupted by a trip to the fabric store.  But that is another story.  (http://twasbrilligand.blogspot.com/2014/02/3-yard-minimum-or-answer-really-is.html).

It was pieced and basted by Friday afternoon.

At which point the quilt spoke... in a very loud voice and said it wanted to be hand quilted. Yes.  the quilt top that finished at 72 x72 inches and had to be completed by noon on Sunday wanted to be hand quilted.

I finished at about 2 am Sunday morning.  Hey, I had 10 hours left to go!

The poor quilt doesn't really have a name yet.  It's working title is Lemoyne Star because... duh, that is what it is.  However, it seemed like I was looking across the universe when I was trying to get it finished so it probably needs a name that reflects that.  Ideas?  Suggestions?

You can read the rest of the story on my blog.  http://twasbrilligand.blogspot.com/2014/02/pq-54-lemoyne-star.html

And now I am going to cuddle up under my nice new quilt and get some rest.  Fortunately, we have a week until the next challenge comes out.

Lovely, lovely quilt.

As for a title, how about "Images of Broken Light".

from the Beatles track Across the Universe:
2nd verse:
Images of broken light, which
Dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on across the universe.
Thoughts meander like a
Restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe.

All those shards of different shades of the same colour seem to fit to me.

Look twice, buy once. Nooooo
Look twice, decide I can make one instead.
