This is my little girl over the moon with her new vanity I surprised her with today when she came home from school.
This is what I started out with. A couple of flea market finds; a wicker framed mirror and a shelf made from a shutter + leftover paint from painting my daughter's room 6+ years ago.
The mirror had been made to hang vertically & I wanted it to be horizontal which is just a tad wider than my shelf is long, so I added some hardware to the back for attaching it to the wall.
I then masked off the mirror area & began to paint.
Wicker is a total pain to paint in case you might want to try this, you've been warned.
You can see I'm using an old ice cream bucket to store the paint in...it's great! Has a handle & is airtight! So much better than messing with the can which had rusted a bit around the lid from being stored for so long in a damp area.
I also painted the shelf with 2 coats.
I mounted the mirror to the wall at my girl's eye level & then hung the shelf directly below it. It's really fabulous for my daughter because it has these great big pegs for hanging her necklaces, bracelets, & little purses from.
She can keep all her lotions, hairclips, hair brush, & whatnots on the shelf...so organized, so cute, so fun! She absolutely loves it!
I'm so thrilled to have finally completed this project. I've had the idea for a few months now & it's been one of my new year resolutions to get to that 'crafts to do' list hanging over my head.
