This is my little girl over the moon with her new vanity I surprised her with today when she came home from school.

This is what I started out with. A couple of flea market finds; a wicker framed mirror and a shelf made from a shutter + leftover paint from painting my daughter's room 6+ years ago.

The mirror had been made to hang vertically & I wanted it to be horizontal which is just a tad wider than my shelf is long, so I added some hardware to the back for attaching it to the wall.

I then masked off the mirror area & began to paint.

Wicker is a total pain to paint in case you might want to try this, you've been warned. Wink You can see I'm using an old ice cream bucket to store the paint in...it's great! Has a handle & is airtight! So much better than messing with the can which had rusted a bit around the lid from being stored for so long in a damp area.

I also painted the shelf with 2 coats.

I mounted the mirror to the wall at my girl's eye level & then hung the shelf directly below it. It's really fabulous for my daughter because it has these great big pegs for hanging her necklaces, bracelets, & little purses from.

She can keep all her lotions, hairclips, hair brush, & whatnots on the shelf...so organized, so cute, so fun! She absolutely loves it!  Grin

I'm so thrilled to have finally completed this project. I've had the idea for a few months now & it's been one of my new year resolutions to get to that 'crafts to do' list hanging over my head.

Aww. How super cute for your little cutie. {Secret} Enamel spray paint. I know you were using up left overs, but for future projects with wicker....spray. Spray, Twist, turn, spray, lay it on plastic in the yard.

You did a wonderful job. And girlie looks sweet with it. What a wonderful surprise for her.
She looks like she is old enough for a "grown up girlie" room. I will guess 8 years old?

Our baby girls love those. And what a great way to organize. And what a sweet smile she has.
I think she might want to take this one to college. Great item for the dorm room.

Oh wow. I'm so pinning this!! I've been looking for a used vanity but never thought of simply a mirror with a shelf. I'll be keeping an eye open for this option too!

It came out so neat and beautiful!!

You win mom of the year!  It is adorable and clever...I love the girly pink color...and it is useful as well!!  I bet she can even use it as she gets older...but you will have to find a table or something to put underneath...I am sure her "STUFF" will multiply as she gets to be a young teenager! Grin

Wonderful upcycle...!!!

I must make something like this for my girl, I'm forever finding her jewelry All Over The Place! LOL, she hangs her necklaces and bracelets (and belts and purses and scarves and clothes too, come to think of it) on every door knob and chair back in the place, ha! This is much better, plus she'll love it.
Thanks for the inspiration! Now if only I can get it together to do this before she grows up and moves out of the house, lol.

Thank you for all the kind words & I'm so happy it's inspiring to others!

The only thing I'd change on it at this point is to add more knobs for hanging her treasures.
She used to have stuff hanging from drawer knobs, the door knob, & her bed posts.
That's why I had interest in the shelf. After her mirrored closet door broke & we replaced the doors with curtains, I thought she needed a mirror in her room that was play-friendly. It seemed like the perfect match that these two things come together & will serve her well.  Smiley

Exactly! We didn't want anything bulky as her room is pretty crowded & what little floor space she has is precious. Thank you!
