And with those words, my heart swelled and we got to work. My 5 year old decided she wanted to make a skirt, so I let her choose from my fabric stash--of course she went right to my vintage sheets. She decided she wanted a long skirt, so I helped her draw out the lines on the fabric in an A-line shape and then she cut it out. She did all of the pinning (and promptly poked herself, rite of passage!) and all of the sewing, while I controlled the speed of the machine. About 30 minutes later, she was just beside herself with pride. Best. Feeling. Ever.

That just made my day.  Awesome job for helping her through the whole process and awesome for her for doing it.  I love how happy she looks, and I am sure you were beaming too.

She did a great job on this skirt.  You are an awesome teacher.  Is the object the skirt is laying on in the second picture handmade too?

Thank you all for the lovely compliments. The skirt is laid out on a ginormous ripple blanket I made a few years back. It was intended as a Stash Buster, but I wound up having to buy more yarn to finish it!  Cheesy
