hey out there--if you aren't familiar with SCRAP http://www.scrap-sf.org/home.htm, you really should be--tons of free and super cheap crazy stuff for you, just waiting to be embraced...paper, fabric, wood and tons of other random items.
and, if you ARE familiar with SCRAP, you should know that they are reducing funding of the project to NOTHING next year--now is a great time to voice your love of the place and show your support with a letter to the mayor or a bug in some personality's ear who might help to save this great resource.
just a thought!

Wow. I never knew about them before. Thank you so much for sharing. I hope I can find a chance to get over there, I work th e 9-5 that they are open during the week, and usually spend weekends with my boyfriend south of here. But I think it'll certainly worth a bit of rearranging of my schedule.

I really do thank you for letting me know about it.

it's worth a walk through on saturday morning, though you never really know what you might find.  the last time i was there i got a ton of free buttons, some little tiny glass bottles with rubber stoppers, some chandalier crystals, three spools of grosgrain ribbon, two huge fabric pieces, a couple of scoops of buttons...cardboard for book boards...and more, all for about $7, i think.  i need to go again this weekend, actually.  Smiley

SCRAP is great! I haven't been there in a long time, and I here that it has moved to a different location since the last time that I was there. I will definitely be going again soon.

I got a silkscreen for $10, some big, weird insulated glass chunks for a dollar each and a bunch of paper stuff for a few dollars. I love scrap.

Woo! I went there today and spent $20 but got a ton of stuff.. 2 striped knits that I'm gonna use for shirts, about 2 yards of striped swimsuit material that I LOVE..8 picture frames and glass for them, two bags of buttons, earring stuff, 6 calendars (free!), and some materials to make a super awesome vase.

i was there today with my mom who was visiting from out of town.  we got a huge amount of amazing stuff for $14 and the founder woman says that they did receive some funding this year and should not have to close, but it's greatly reduced.  hopefully the fundraising and such will help.  i gave her an extra buck, but i'm no rockefeller.
