lol kbrison...my college days were so far behind me that it never occurred to be to even mention it!  Most of the bowling was pure adrenaline since so many people were pumped up for the event!  In other words, sheer luck! Grin

It was fun and I got a t-shirt...I was lucky as a child to have a Big Sister help me when my dad was overseas with the Army...

Do people pledge by the meter?

No. its more like we are doing this to attract peoples attention to get them to donate. Also if it gets big enough we sre going to try and get some local press which will in turn encourage more donations, we hope.

Is it being kept at the Starbucks?  It would be great if they could keep a progress chart on it...like we do with our thermometer goal thing...that is wonderful!!! 28 meters=91 feet for the metric challenged...Grin

It is all cutely piled in a wicker basket sitting on a small table just as you go into the starbucks store. We do have a poster explaining what we are doing but not a 'themometre' type poster... yet. I do plan to make one but I just havent managed it yet.

I was substituting today at a local middle school (12-14 year olds). I took this project with me to work on during planning period and any free time. Several of the kids have seen me crocheting fingerless gloves for another charity project and wanted to know if that was what I was working on. It gave me the opportunity to tell them about this project and to explain that my sections were going to be sent to Scotland to aid in a children's medical fundraiser. They thought that was really cool! And they also liked the idea that the scarf would be made into blankets later to go to yet another charity.

that is great kbrison...getting kids to think about charities and helping others at an early age...are they old enough to learn crochet?  I know I support a school in Philly where the middle school girls and boys crochet baby blankets for the preemies in hospitals...they use whatever yarn is donated to them...I love hearing stories like yours...

Definitely old enough - 12 to 14 year olds. Problems: finding a location and finding time to teach them considering my current schedule. Also have a group of adults who want me to teach them how to sew. Same problems. I've found that most kids are very eager to help others if grown-ups just give them a chance.

Was teaching the same group of kids today, so they wanted to know if I had finished the strip. I told them I did over the weekend. Then I pulled a new skein of yarn from my project tote and started a different design. They love seeing what I'm up to and are still expressing an interest in learning how to crochet. I've got to work out the problems and find a way to make it happen for them. Tickles me that such an old craft is making a new splash in the craft and fashion world.
