Art isn't a hobby...it's a way of LIFE!

Wasn't sure if this was the right board for this, but I consider it an art piece...

I made this for my boyfriend for Christmas  Grin I'm pretty proud of how it turned out! My mom had this long (3-3.5 feet) piece of driftwood out in her yard...I took it  Tongue lol! I used some steel rings (a 12 in, 8 in, and 6 in, I believe) and wrapped each of those in a black cotton yarn. I did the traditional dreamcatcher weaving with artificial sinew in the smaller two rings (I added some beading too) and used a gold colored embroidery thread to wrap the 8 in within the 12 in. I wanted a sun/moon effect. I used some faux leather/suede cord to hand it on the driftwood and for all the hanging pieces. I bought a few packages of feather picks in black, black/red/gold, and black/white and some wooden beads for all those hanging pieces. It took, all together (including dry time for glue), about three days. The hardest part was all the sinew. It was my first time working with it and I also wanted the tighter sections rather than wider ones.

Here's some pictures of the finished piece (they aren't the best for color reference)...

Thanks for viewing!

Wow. I totally captured a picture for future reference. Sorry. You can call me an art thief if you wish.
I love how you layered the two rings together. Just for note: the artificial sinew is not as easy to work with as the real "cat gut" threading. The cat gut is sticky, and holds the tensions tighter. And you can strip it thinner, if you wish. Kind of like embroidery thread being 6 ply, but you pull out 3 strands to work with. You can split the cat gut the same way. It will just pull apart the length of it.

Wonderful project. I love the driftwood. Hope Mom didn't mind  Grin I collect crazy twigs and things, too. You never know when inspiration will strike. I love weaving and macrame. The feathers are neat, as well.

You might befriend rockinghorse on here. She shares her feathers all around. Beautiful ones. She must have some very pretty birds. Just in case you wish to make more dream catchers. The feathers also make pretty earrings. Or hair do-dads.

Thanks! You're more than welcome to take any inspiration from it! I took inspiration from one I saw on Etsy, too.
The sinew I got had a very waxy feel to it and was a bit slippery once my hands warmed it up. I did strip it into about three strands just to make it thinner and not so bulky. I didn't like how it would slip from the center of a strand off to the side while I was working, but once it cooled and I guess the waxy finish solidified again, it stayed put.
Thanks for the tips  Smiley

"Ditto" per alteredmommy comment. There were so many details I wasn't even seeing it from the macro level to view the sun/moon.  The balance in the inbalance is stellar.
