This old rocker has been around since before I was born (a long, looooong time ago.)  I always remember my grandmother sitting in it, rocking away.  Well I've hung on to it and it was in pretty rough shape but I couldn't bear to do away with it so...of course a new project.
I got this idea from sugarbeth - who may or may not still be on Craftster but she did some really lovely pieces. I used a Dremel to draw out my pictures then painted the entire chair black.  When I painted all the birds, etc I left the black outlines.  On the actual rockers at the bottom I wrote a couple of the nonsense rhymes/sayings that my grandma used to tell me she learned as a girl - in memoriam.
Ive worked on it off and on for several months but I'm getting ready to move across the country so that was my motivation to finish this bad boy up.  Smiley

This is so wonderful! I love it soooo much.  You've really made an heirloom into an heirloom that will be around and appreciated just that much longer.  YEY YOU!  Smiley

I LOVE what you've done!  I can feel your Grandma smiling...  Wonderful birds and colors.  Can it still be used as a chair?

Thanks so much all!
MW - it is definitely coming with me- it will fit perfectly into the new house.  And YES morus! It's still totally useable!
Cackle - I found that flat file a couple years ago in a little antique shop.  As I was paying for it, another woman was asking to buy it - phew!  Just in the nick of time!   Wink

Scholars and artists...differ most importantly in the way their knowledge is come by.  Scholars get theirs with conscientious thoroughness along projected lines of logic; poets...stick to nothing deliberately, but let what will stick to them like burrs where they walk in the fields.

Fantastic chair.  I am obsessed with birds and also a primary teacher.  This idea will come in hand to spruce up my sad looking rocker.
