Got the first step of my Mochi Plus Swirl hat done -- altho' in my case it's a Bernat Mosaic swirl hat....

Sewed it up this morning, waiting for the plumber.  Will pick up titches and knit the crown this weekend -- and report back on Monday!

I've actually done some hats this year, altho' I'm not counting them for this knit-along...

... these are about 3" long, for the little Knubbelchen dolls I've been making. #2 needles (for me) are hard!

Welcome, coulsenl -- can't wait to see your hats!

Well, I finished the swirl hat -- (http://www.straw.com/cpy/patterns2/accessories/MochiPlus-SwirlHat.html)  -- cant say Im really thrilled, tho.

Altho I followed the directions for an average size and my gauge was pretty close, the finished hat was really small.  My model styro head is pretty small, and this was tight on the model head.

Altho I followed the directions, and wrapped and sewed the strip the way the illustration shows, my finished hat doesnt look at all like the picture of their finished hat.

The directions give you a pretty shallow, almost flat, top. (10% decrease every other row).  But the pictures shows a cap that looks like half the hat.  Folding and sewing the hat the way the illustration shows gives you a very narrow diameter, but very tall hat, that I had to cuff deeply all around and still had a peak at the top.  Their finished hat picture shows a very rounded top, with a shallow cuff that I don't think goes all the way around.

I'm sort of "meh" about the hat.  On the plus side, I *really* love the yarn; Bernat's Mosaic in "Waterfall" colors.  I don't think this was quite the best use of it, but that's okay -- I got three skeins on clearance for $1.99 each a coupld of months ago, so I'm rarin' to go!

Aw, sucks that the pattern didn't turn out like their pictures. Still, it looks pretty cool, even if not how you were hoping. I love Bernat Mosaic, too!

And just to prove there's a head for every hat -- I gave the mosaic swirl hat to the little boy across the street, who seems quite happy with it!

Have a unprecedented (relatively) unscheduled weekend coming up and a lot of yarn to de-stash.  Now, what to knit.....

There's something so satisfying about a stack o' hats! I knocked out a couple of quick caps, using some patterns from Barbara Walker. Quick work over a long weekend -- and I used up a skein of stash!
