Radarfan,

It came white.  We used thin plywood on the back and painted that before we attached it.  We laid the plywood down, put the shelves on top (back down) and traced the openings onto the plywood, then we painted and "wallpapered" inside (well, a little outside) the lines so when we put it on, the backs were already done.  That's why only the backs are done (accented walls, we like to call them!), because it's difficult to paint the white shiny veneer.

Hope this helps, but let me know if you think that made NO sense whatsoever.   :-)

There's not much in this world that can't be improved by either chocolate, bacon or glitter.

This is SOOO great! I have long admired just this kind of project where someone take something not meant to be a dollhouse and makes into a WONDERFUL doll house.

If you scuff the surface and use a high-adhesive primer, you can paint this surface (and just about any other).

That looks great!
Much better than the Barbie house Miss 5 has. Might be a good birthday present for her this year

Such a great idea!  And it's great that you can use it after as regular storage when she outgrows the doll house.   Smiley
