Hello all,
I have recently finished this commissioned soft sculpture for an uncles newphew.
I have taken photos as the project has progressed, and would like to give all of you some insight into how I did it.

The client contacted me with a request for a Turtle Dragon for a gift for his nephew.
The concept was to be based off of a Sculpie Turtle Dragon that someone else had made and posted on DeviantArt.com
http://www.deviantart.com/morelikethis/artists/133731852
I'll start the process with 12" x 18" sheets of 3mm craft foam to use as my carapace shell armature.

For reference I will be using this illustration for the shell details:

From here I'll cut the foam to make 4 quarters of my carapace armature (2 pieces per quarter).
The pattern is a quarter of the shell I have drawn on two pieces of canvas.
After cutting out this 1/4 I'll use it to transfer the pattern to the other three 1/4's.

With all the carapace armature pieces cut out I'll start preparing polyester canvas to cover the craft foam pieces. I'll use a little light grade contact cement to sandwich foam between 2 pieces of foam

The full build is in my photo gallery as this article will take several posts to complete.
Please feel free to ask questions up to any point I've written about here.

Namaste'
