I'm diabetic which means that I create a whole lot of waste. Old needles, old insulin cartridges, and, most wasteful of all, hundreds and hundreds of empty test strip bottles. However, I've finally worked out something to do with the bottles - bud vases! Yay!

All I did to make these was to cut off the lids, peel off the labels, and then cover them in washi tape. Seriously, how awesome is washi tape?? ^____^

They look super cute and they were really easy to make - the best kind of project! ^____^

I've got a new glucometer now which uses testing cartridges and creates a lot less rubbish, but I've still got twenty or so of these bottles hanging around waiting to be made into something special. Any suggestions? ^____^

Well, I love the bud vase idea. They are very pretty. Idea? Make some up and take them to a nursing home or hospital. And pass them around. Nurses would love them on their desk, and patients would love them on their side table. Other than that, they would be good to store beads or buttons in. Scan a picture and print on a label...to tell what is inside? Or just tape a sample to the outside of the bottle. And use that for the label.

Those are great! What a wonderful way to repurpose. My husband takes the tubes that the test strips come in and makes shakers for percussion out of it. I should make them a little more fancy with some washi tape. Thanks for the inspiration.

What a great idea! One of my girlfriends has a gazillion of those bottles. I'm going to pass this idea on to her, she will love it.
And Kittykill, the percussion instrument idea is also fab. Her son is in a band, they might love this!

what a cute idea!  I sort of feel the same way about the many pill bottles at my house...a few bud vases would be nice...and some shakers for the kids to play with...thanks for sharing, everyone!
