I've been working on one of these for a while now ... So far it's 44 inches across. I'll be finishing it off at about 60 inches square. Here is an in-progress shot. I'm doing mine in red/black/white for my best friend.

While I'm not ready to jump in just yet, I would like to use up some baby yarn I have to make a baby blanket (or two... or more...) to keep on hand for the inevitable baby showers that happen at work (4 this year!). I'm always stumped with how big a baby blanket needs to be. I don't want to make a gigantic one, but something that is a decent size.

@that1girl: Yours is looking fantastic!  ...you are making me want to do a wooleater-modular ghan. Grin

@Lilibet: :::kick::: Cool

Silly question, but is Australian terminology the same as UK? I'm used to American terminology or not using patterns and just winging it...
Yes...Here's a quick conversion info to help you out:
US chain(ch)=UK chain(ch)
US single crochet(sc)=UK double crochet(dc)
US double crochet(dc)=UK treble(tr)
US half double crochet(hdc)=UK half treble(htr)
US triple crochet(trc)=UK double treble(dtr)
US slip stitch(sl st)=UK slip stitch(sl st)

@nisforneville: love the dishcloth Grin...I really should work up a few because my cotton stash is out of control!  And HOORAY for starting your ooblong ghan...love the blues

@Solitaire: Lucky friend...your wooleater is looking grand!

@craftADDchick:  I'm working my up in baby yarn, and I'm lovin' the results.  It's not too heavy, has an interesting design, and not too holey for a baby.  For my baby gift ghan, I'm going for a finished size of 35"x37".

Thanks, pinkleo! I made a blanket last year (no pattern...just the lovely linen stitch) and someone looked at it and said, "That's as big as you're making it?" Which is why I never gave it to the intended recipient Sad I do have another person to send it to, and I won't be there when they open it, in case they make a similar remark Smiley I guess I should measure it to see how far off I was!

First, ove the linen stitch; it's what my 2013 sky ghan is worked up in.

I think for baby ghans you can be a variety of sizes...small ones work for strollers and car seats, larger ones are fab for sleeping or playmats.

And I know the worry-worm of giving handmade gifties, but never let that stop you...handmade gifts are always the BEST!!! Grin

Thanks everyone Smiley Once I finish this one .. I have about 7.5 rounds left to go ... I'll be collecting yarn to make one for my fiance and myself ... I'm just not sure of the color theme for that one yet. I'm thinking either purples/greens ... or Seahawks colors! (Since he, the kids and I are all huge fans!)

CraftADDchick ... I worry about sizing all the time ... I usually shoot for between 35/40" for baby afghans.
