I've been slowly teaching myself how to crochet over the last few years. I've made scarves for both my son and myself and I've learned how to make a crochet wig cap for a couple poppets. But other than those, my crochet projects have been limited to single crochet. Because let's be honest, to a newbie, some of the other crochet stitches are quite intimidating.

I have been in love with baby poncho ( http://thewoollenhippy.typepad.com/blog/2011/05/the-baby-poncho-tutorial.html ) that I stumbled on years ago and never really had a little girl to make one for so the pattern sat bookmarked on the computer forever. But when we found out we were having a little girl, learning a new stitch or two seemed less intimidating because I was just so excited to get to finally make one!

I've learned how to make a basic granny square with this project, as well as how to double crochet, and how to reduce stitches. So all in all, I'd say crocheting is an addicting new hobby since I'm now working on a baby blanket.

I am thrilled with how it turned out and how easy it was. I might just have to scale it up a bit and make one for me one of these days!
