I made this for SonjaBoo for her coffee/tea theme.  I guess she hasn't had a chance to post it, but I wanted to, just to share the fun technique I tried and to encourage others to try it!

This is painted with very strong instant coffee on watercolor paper.  I dumped one of those instant coffee packs and added just enough water to dissolve the crystals.  That was my darkest color, and then just added water to lighten.  Once the coffee dries it looks so different then it does wet, so there is a lot of painting, letting dry and then adjusting.  It was fun and the best smelling paint I have ever used  Cheesy.  I had read it can fade or even mold over time, so I did use some microglaze fixative once I was finished.

So if you have never painted with coffee, try it!  It is a lot of fun Smiley

That's awesome! As a barista-at-heart I love when people find other uses for coffee! I hope it still smells wonderful even though it is sealed!

Berries and tea work also.

And I received this gorgeous 1950-60s card from My_RubySlippers for my theme of beauty. I remember this image. I can't place it but I think of Grace Kelly and Vogue. She wore lovely hats.

Oof. I hope the mould thing doesn't happen too often - it didn't cross my mind to seal La Chapa's card. Clever thinking using different strengths of coffee too: gives you more scope to work with. It's a nice cup - for some reason cups and mugs seem to elude me when I try to draw them. They tend to end up strangely asymmetrical.

cmarion3: The cooked pods/ vs. raw pods making a difference between whether they're edible or not makes sense.

Helcura: I've not played with coloured inks yet. I'm still at a stage where trying to draw with ink involves me dropping great spots of it on whatever surface I'm working on and/or my drawing.

jillybeans: What a lucky baby!

MamaTrader: That is awesome!  I'll have to try that someday!

My_RubySlippers...strikes again!  Amazing!

Mostly Harmless:  after that comment, I quickly pulled out the atc you sent me and sniffed it.  Heaven!  Oh it smells wonderful!  I had no idea you had painted it with coffee.  I think it shouldn't mold as it is completely crispy dry, and my understanding is that mold needs moisture.  Plus, I'm in southern California, which if you don't know, is a dry, dry desert. Wreaks havoc on my skin!

...AND, here's my atc from My_RubySlippers for my Famous Monsters ABCs series:

at first I thought it was a jaberwocky, but I guess it's a jersey devil!  I had never heard of this before and had to look it up.  I can't believe there are cryptids that I've never heard of!  Thanks RubySlippers for the atc and the monster lesson!   Wink

And for my "Your Least Favorite Color w/ Your Favorite Color" theme I get the combination of colors over a zentangle background, how cool. Now which is the favorite and which is the least.....

"light pink & Neon/mustard yellow" I have my guess.... The flower looks like colored pencil over a grayscale picture. Very nice.

That is a lovley flower atc!  I received these lovelies today:

From ale0005, for my rabbits theme, this cutie pie!

He's washing his face!  That has to be the cutest thing that rabbits do!

From helcura for my Famous Monster ABCs series, this great addition!

I love her!

And last, but not least, a botanical illlustration by rockingbearranch, to quench my thirst for geeky natural science stuff!

The contrast on the original is much better, but my camera phone was really washing this one out - sorry rbr!

Thanks ladies for my new lovelies!!
