(Unlike some, I have an abundance of ideas, just a dearth of talent! Tongue  Usually takes me a bit to try to wrangle what's in my head out onto a piece of paper!)

HAH!  Dearth of talent?  I say, HAH!

I read something the other day in the latest issue of ClothPaperScissors that really struck home and I felt applies to a lot of people here who may not have the strongest belief in their own talents (and JoAnn, I thought specifically of you and your beautiful art that you made for me) ....

I'm going to quote the paragraph that was written by Cindy La Ferle in her piece at the end of the latest issue...

"In his landmark best seller, CARE OF THE SOUL, Thomas Moore claims that art is our birthright.  He urges all of us to pull the arts down from the pedestal that makes them seem too precious.  He reminds us that everyone is an artist when his or her work is crafted with soul and passion."

I highlighted that latter part because that was a bit of an epiphany for me, and what really sparked my own creative soul.  I think I am actually going to turn that quote into a piece of art or wearable art too.

I'm hard at work already... my plan is a lot more complicated than ones I've done in the past but I've always wanted to do this particular thing, but never had a good reason. So now I do! I love when swaps provide that for me  Cheesy

Very excited for my very first art swap!

Welcome!

I actually have 2 pieces finished, VERY different mediums, and considering toying with a 3rd WAY DIFFERENT medium, but we'll see. I love how we can make different pieces, and then just pick the one..and sometimes it turns into a completely random last min pick between several choices!

I plan on participating... since sign-ups are open for several more days, and we won't be crafting for a partner, I am going to hold off for a few more days and make sure that things remain stable and sane at work before over-committing myself to swaps.  Excited over the list of people who've signed up already, though!

On a sad note, I looked for canvases at Michaels yesterday and they had every size in the world EXCEPT 4x6.  I know I could do this on paper or anything else too, but I'd really like to work on canvas.   Undecided

Have you tried an art supply store.  I found that art stores sold them - one of mine has the thinner wrapped panels as well as the thicker wood mounted ones in 4x6.  Also, you could just make your own panel from thin wood, or card stock and just prep the surface, and mount it on something thicker or stiffer if your material is too thin.  I may be trying another idea on a thinner material myself, because the inks I want to use may not grab and hold well on a gessoed surface.

I was also surprised when I checked Michaels.  Since I'm starting with an oil wash (I think) I got a sheet of their specialty paper so my 4x6 piece will be really thin, lol!  But it should hold up well - it's pretty sturdy stuff.  Pricey for a
single paper but I used a coupon and I'll have plenty left over for any future odd-sized projects  Smiley.

In the previous swaps, I just used corrugated cardboard as the base, and then covered it with paper or fabric - whatever the piece required. The good thing about corrugated is it's free and you can make as many as you need.

Of course, I don't know if it works for oil paints or other wet media, but you have some time to experiment.
