SheepBlue and I decided to do a personal swap for something arty, something experimental and possibly involving some less-than-traditional weaving. The results were fantastic!

From SheepBlue:

The artsy weaving. Isn't it splendid?!

Let's look closer:

SheepBlue used some of her art yarn stash to weave this creation. And look there on the left, that is a feather woven in. Very cool. And a rock - she wove in rocks. I love it.

She used branches for the frame as well as some smaller wood pieces woven in with the yarns. I like those clear beads - just a touch of sparkle. I also like the way that tightly wound blue and the fat, caterpillar-like green look together.

I realize you'll have to take my word for it, but that cream yarn is so squishy. It isn't too soft, but it isn't rough - it has a spongey, dense body. The fringe has been fondled, I admit. The feathers woven in are neat visual texture.

Beads, and rocks, and wood, and lumpy art yarn, and skinny art yarn! Oh my!

It really is amazing and it looks nice in my workshop, even in its temporary display home.
Thank you so much, sheepBlue, for this work of art. You're the best!

I'm so happy you like it Sarcastra  Smiley It was a joy to make and includes a lot of beautiful little pieces I've had in my stash or found in walks near my home that were a perfect fit when put together.

I received a great piece of art in return from Sarcastra - again, the key to our swap was arty and experimental, and I love how she chose to interpret it.

(Disclaimer: I'm sorry my pictures truly do not do justice to the many details in this piece. All my good photography stuff is all packed up in boxes right now. Sarcastra, if you have better pictures please please please post them  Smiley).

She created a framework of wild wooden sticks, woven together and through with strips of linen (?), with beading detail, wire weaving, yarn weaving, all combined. It is so delicate and intricate, I'm shocked but happy it came through the mail in one piece.

Each strip has tiny beads embroidered on - must have taken forever!

I am envious of her wire wrapping skills. There's little details like this throughout the whole piece.

Gorgeous. Thank you so much Sarcastra for swapping with me. It was a pleasure getting to know you and receiving a fantastic piece of original art at the same time  Smiley

Oh wow. I love both of those pieces. Did you plan to use the same colors? The pale wood frames with mostly white/cream and blue and green accents. I would hang either one of those up in my home. What a treasure of a swap!

Victoria Kamalova, my friend, you are amazing.  This painting of our dear Dewey touched our hearts!  Victoria was working on this before something tragic occurred last week, we had to put Dewey to sleep.  When I received this I cried.

Also, she sent me three great atc's and a cool book from the Hermitage Museum!

That portrait of your Dewey is beautiful! What an awesome memento to have. I hope you take some time out for yourself to sit and relax and remember the wonderful times you had.

Hah, no we didn't plan it; it was coincidence. We do seem to have overlaps in our tastes and preferences so it isn't too surprising we ended up this way. Mine looks great hanging in my workshop!
