I finished up a drawing I'd been working on for awhile (took time off my swirly doodles to try to focus on Lifebook, that hasn't been going well) and realized I'd never posted any of them here, so... sorry for the glut of pictures, but here they are...

This one is probably my favorite, and inspired by a stamp I saw at a craft store...

This is the first one I did, I still have the original, uncolored version, but I rather like the vivid colors...

Here's another one that I first drew, then....

colored in.

Butterfly!

Another bird...

This was a fish (yea, I know, his fins should be longer and his tail shorter, I started work on another one... somewhere... I should find that one!) that had no black lines, just color.  Still not sure if I like that option.

Quick and easy jellyfish

Dragonfly

Sorry for the kinda crummy photo on this one, my fist time adding colored markers.

And the latest, with several different colors of markers and different scale swirls (the main large ones, then the "shading" swirls in the branches).  I"m still not sure about the one swirl under the purple bit on the chest... part of me wants to color it in entirely, the other part says to leave it...  I just don't know!

I've rather fallen off doing many of these, kind of because I've not been inspired with what else to do.  Sure, more birds and butterflies, but...  (I tried a few other things that when horribly, laughably wrong - I'm not much of an artist, so simple shapes are important!).

You are definately our swirly girlie here! Very wonderful art.
If I had to pick a favorite...dragonfly.
But all of them are very pretty.

I agree with jennifer680...my new page for my journal will be in this style of art. Not copied, or pasted  Grin
Your swirls are yummy. I am looking to free up my style. And this inspires me for that. Thanks!

Awww, thank you so much!  It's an easy art style, very fluid and relaxing... at least the pencil sketching is!  The inking is a little more meticulous, but I find it very zen and soothing.  And mostly these are just Sharpie on sketch paper, though a few are with the better Micron pens.  Cheesy

They're lovely!

And your avatar makes me think you should try drawing a snail. Smiley  How about more trees, or flowers, or a jungle?  Snowflakes.  And try more fish, maybe a koi with water swirling around it.

Blimey I wish I was as much "not an artist" as you are, these are beautiful!!!

My suggestion for another one would be a whole tree.

Err just looked again and seen you have done a tree, what I meant was a whole tree in the style of your branches, not just single lines. Also as a slightly more abstract stacked hearts (one inside another, inside another, inside another etc) with each heart a different colour.
Hitting this rocks cos I really love these!

I really like the jelly the most, but looking back that butterfly is amazing, and the humming bird is super sweet too! These are all just beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Well, Jexxi...you are the gal to do it. Ask smeddley if she will allow you to borrow them? And be sure to make her one, too  Grin I will bet she would love that. What a great flattery of sharing art. I agree, those would be wonderful stitched. The ink is wonderful, too. But hoopla is a great idea to incorporate as well. I keep coming back to this thread. The freedom, and wonderful swirls are comforting.  Wink

dulcet - ooooh, all good ideas!  I definitely need to make more, now - maybe I can make a bunch of notecards (credit where it's due, that was alwaysinmyroom's suggestion from the craftalong post!)

Ratfinkz - good ideas - I'm thinking hearts and Valentine's cards, and if I ever get up the energy, I could totally do a tree with swirly shading (a friend of mine did a panda like that and oh my goodness it was amazing!)

bushbaby, jexxican - if you want to stitch one up, feel free!  I don't have the talent for embroidery, only cross-stitch, and that's rather counter to the form of the flowiness!

And thanks everyone, for your kind words!  I love posting here, everyone is so nice and supportive!  Cheesy

Nope. If you can cross stitch...you could stitch these up. A tiney-er pointyer-er needle than your darners...thiner embroidery thread. Say, two strands, maybe three for your heavy outlines. Heavy linen, or a stiff cotton/muslin for fabric? Canvas works good, too. Bind it firmly in the hoop. Give it a go. I bet you could do it.  Grin {sorry..don't think I spelled all that right...but I think you get the picture}

When you get time...give it a go. You have great ideas, and are very artistic. There are wash away stabalizers to back the fabric with, if you are working with the thinner linen, or cottons. After you stitch, you just wash them off. They also make a tear away backing. That one you don't have to remove, necessarilly. Unless you want a softer feel to your project. They are easy to stitch through. "Sew Ease" is a fun oil for your needles and thread. Har, har...they won't tangle  Cheesy Give it a shot. I will bet you rock your own socks off.

Oh thanks, T. You are too kind.

And I bet these would translate into X stitch as well. There are programs you can use to make photos into knitting or X stitch patterns. You would lose a bit of the softness of the curves but I still think it would be rad.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned the fact that these would make some beautiful tattoos! They are awesome as they are, but the clean swirly patterns are perfect tattoo material I think Smiley

Great idea. Something small on an ankle, or butt cheek.

She needs to get on Lulu, and craft a book and sell these designs. I will PM and give her that idea. Lulu.com. They take a small percentage, and only charge you when they print a book and send. NO INVENTORY. And they credit you on PayPal. They handle the administrative tasks, and print your book. I think last I checked, they were at only 1.5%...so just add that to your pricing as a markup.

These are beautiful and feminine. I love them. Amazing as bold black linework and when they are colored in. I liked seeing both versions of some of them.
