I've just sent my questionnaire in. I haven't done a swap in a very long time but with Miss 5 starting primary school next week & Master 3 starting preschool, I'll have some time to do my own thing Smiley

WideEyedLife -- Many have mentioned that they are making/will make practice stamps.  Would it be acceptable for us to post pictures of our practice pieces, either here or in the gallery?  I, for one, am working on something now, and would love to get feedback on it from the talented folks here.  Grin

This thread here is a wonderful place to post practice stamps, especially as everyone is stalking and excited to comment.  Posting practice stamps is a fun way to get people chatting about their stamps and style.  Go for it.  Smiley  (The swap gallery, when I get it up, is reserved for stamps sent/received in the swap.)

Cool! I am making stamps for my three kids to give to their teachers as a little gift to start the school year off with too, so I'll have more soon.

Here are the two I had done already:

I am working on this piece for the 4 x 6 Art Swap.  (I checked, and it seems like I'm the only participant in both swaps, so it should probably be okay to post this here.)

It is not finished yet, but now I am really paranoid about it, because "Dear" Husband walked into my craft room uninvited this weekend, picked up this in-progress print and said "Which way is it supposed to go?  I can't tell what it's supposed to be."  Angry

It is based off of this photograph I took over Christmas vacation:

My fear is that the subject matter becomes unrecognizable when the image turns monochromatic.  I realized that I still need to carve out the boat's mast, and I know I want to do *something* with the sky and the sea so that they will be recognizable, I just don't know what.

Any ideas on what I should do with the sky and sea?  Huh  Any other suggestions/feedback would be great too.  Thanks!

I recognised it as soon as I saw it in recent threads from having seen a different version the other day.

    It is really good!

I know you want it monochromatic but my idea for the sea/sky would be to give it a very pale/watered down blue rinse. I am not an artist by any stretch of the imagination though so feel free to ignore me!

I figured it was a boat of sorts before scrolling down to see the photograph.

For the sea and sky, perhaps you could carve in a few small inverted Vs, to be waves? And a cloud or two in the sky? Not a fully carved out cloud, maybe with diagonal lines or cross hatching? Before you carve though, run yourself a few in progress prints, and then use a white crayon or a correction fluid pen to draw in extra parts to your design until you are happy enough to carve it in.

I made more stamps, one each for the new teachers my kids will have this year.

Sorry about the silver ink, it's a PITA to photograph. My purple pad has gone all weird, and when I try to stamp with it, the ink beads off my stamps like trying to paint over glue. I hope to pick up a black pad soon, but does anyone know what's wrong and if I can fix it?
