Hi all!

A new year and my resolution isn't "to lose weight," like usual, it's to eat healthy and NOT do any crazy diets this year. My main goals are eating more fruits and vegetables and counting calories (portion size!) I'd love it if you joined me here to share meal plans, recipes, and other things that could encourage each other to cook and eat healthy.

Green smoothies, for me, are a great way to get in some vegetables and fruits early in the day! Here's my go-to recipe:

MareMare's Fave Green Smoothie

1 1/2 cups cold water
2 giant handfuls raw spinach (2 packed cups if you want to measure)
sweetener of choice (preferable liquid...honey, maple syrup, agave syrup, sf syrup)
5-6 frozen strawberries
1/2 frozen banana or several chunks frozen peaches

I use a regular blender for this, while I would love a BlendTek or VitaMix someday, it's not in the cards right now. Add water and spinach to blender and blend on high for at least 30 seconds. Scrape down sides if needed. Blend until it looks liquid, then blend another 15 seconds. Add sweetener and frozen fruit and blend until smooth. Drink. Love. Mmm.

I'm in for another year of healthy eating! I like your plan this year, Mare. Are you still doing My Fitness Pal? I think I'm going to start up again on it. I really find that it helps me avoid mindless unhealthy eating.

I binged over this holiday season, more than usual, and I'm feeling gross.

I did make baked falafel's last night which are pretty healthy. Unfortunately I also baked a batch of chocolate cookies and made ice cream sandwiches with them Undecided. Not so healthy.

I'm making Asian tofu tacos for dinner tonight and plan to continue with the low calorie dinners and not continue the high calorie baking for dessert Smiley.

I am tracking on MFP!

I'm also going back to my old trick that the nutritionist told me, to be sure to have a fruit or vegetable at every meal. Fills you up, gets you the good nutrition, and it's easier to do portion control/control your calories because the fruits and veggies are low cal.

Right now we're trying to do a "eat from the pantry and freezer" plan because we have a ridiculous amount of food in the house. I'm only going to buy fresh fruit/veggies, eggs, and milk for awhile and try to use up what we've got! Tonight I am using up a head of cabbage and probably some ground beef in a soup.

I think I might buy a bag of Lindt truffles and allot myself one or two a day and that will be my treat for the day and chocolate hit. If I track it and I know I have it to look forward to, that might steer me away from other things that would knock my calorie count off.

I'm LimeRiot on MFP too if you ever want to find me there. I probably won't start tracking again until next week when I'm back to my usual routine.

The one fruit or veggie per meal is a good rule. Similarly, I need to start having a glass of water before each meal. I'm good about doing that at lunch (when I'm in the office) but don't always do that with bfast or dinner.

I did Freshology a few years ago and they do one mini dessert each day. I always looked forward to that and it did help me avoid eating other treats because I knew I had a yummy waiting for me. So I think your truffle idea is a good one!

The boyfriend lost about 30 pounds last summer and then has been eating poorly the last few months, so he's excited to get back to healthier eating. Luckily for me he will eat anything and loves veggies and healthy foods, I dated someone a while back who literally would not eat a vegetable or drink water. We lived together for months and I only saw him drink water once, when he was kinda choking on something and I handed it to him!

I'll join in this year! My healthy eating goals are a bit more general - more whole foods, less processed, and less sugar. Basically, no finishing my son's little debbie brownies three times a day!

Love the smoothie recipe, Mare! I'll have to give it a try. I'm not a fan of artificial sweeteners, how do you like agave?

Have any of you used chia seeds? I think I'd like to start incorporating them into things like oatmeal, yogurt, smoothies, and salads to help me feel fuller longer. Two days in to cutting out sugary snacks and I'm hungry!

I might get a stash of dark chocolate to kill the sweet craving. I don't really like it, so hopefully it will be easier to resist! Right now I'm killing it with coffee or tea (sans sugar of course).

I like agave, it has a neutral flavor (unlike honey or maple syrup) and incorporates easily, is very sweet so you don't need much. It's not the health food it was once touted as, but I think that's obvious about any sugar (not health foods!). I believe there's some controversy surrounding it, like pretty much everything else these days, but I use it occasionally in moderation and will continue to. (I don't buy into all the fear mongering about everything killing us!)

I'll join y'all! I have also gone a little mad with the holiday baking & even made sugar cookies with the kids the other day, so we all need to get back into a healthier lifestyle. I didn't know about MFP... it sounds brilliant for keeping track of what we're putting into our bodies!

I like it for calorie counting! The forum annoys me in many ways but I still pop in occasionally.

I started back up on my MFP calorie counting today. I had a good day filled with fruits and veggies and a little tofu for protein. My body is begging for carbs and something sweet now though. I'm having tea to try to shut it up!
