Congrats, danynn! Woo!

I finished 1 baby quilt top this weekend and about 90% of another one. I hope to get the second finished today (changed my layout idea, so need to make one more block and then stitch together) and get both of them basted. I want them to be done by Thursday night for show and tell at my guild (my first meeting as pres...only freaking out a bit!) and then want to gift asap, the baby is due today.

The one I changed the layout from, initially it was going to be layout A but I made 3 reverse blocks, now it is going to be layout B with only 1 reverse block (so I need to make two more regular blocks. Derp.)

And what the actual blocks look like:

MareMare, That is one beautiful quilt! Can you tell me the name of the pattern or where you got the pattern?

I can not wait to see the other one too.

Thanks! I just saw a pic of the block somewhere so made my own up. The other day I found out it's called a Dutch Pinwheel. It's just HSTs set in a 4x4 grid. So easy to do! I decided I wanted to make giant blocks so I made 20 inch blocks so I could do 4 blocks for a 40 inch baby quilt. Each block uses 4 HSTs of each color, so I used the 4 at a time method of making HSTs.

For a 4x4 grid of HSTs to finish at 20 inches I wanted them to be 5.5 inches finished. To do this, each 20 inch block needed 4 white 9.5 inch squares and 4 squares of 4 different colors of 9.5 inches. The 4 at a time method is right sides together, sew along all sides (1/4 inch) and then slice on the diagonal. Trim down to 5.5 inches, they'll be pretty big (you can use 9.25 inches starting squares if you want to trim less), but I wanted them to be super exact.

Here's a tute for a smaller block, but this method has more sewing involved because they are making them 2 at a time.

Missouri Star Quilt Co has a good video tutorial on making 4 hst's at a time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkm3nCferp4

You can get all fancy and calculate your final size or you can decide on an easy measurement for the large blocks (10 inches gives you 4 cuts across the width of fabric...).  You can then trim down to the right size.

I have a couple variations of this ruler http://www.junetailor.com/Creativity%20Center/CreativityCenter_ProductInstructions_Rulers_HalfSquareTriangles.htm

They make it absolutely simple to square up the blocks.

Thanks to you all for your support & help! I had made 4 simple quilts in my life before last week. In the past 8 days, I have pieced 3 baby quilt tops (all from stash fabric - Yeah!). My plan is to piece quilt top #4, then completely finish at least 2 quilts. I'm sure I will slow down my progress significantly when I return to work on Wednesday. I'm taking advantage of winter break & the extreme cold weather to get a jump on my goal of 12+ quilts for charity plus 1 for a friend. I'll post photos of the quilt tops when I get a camera that works.

Wow, you're on a roll!

That looks like an awesome ruler! I just have various sizes of square ones, that would probably replace them all!

I want to join this year!  I am not sure of my whole list yet.  I really want to join Project Quilting this year.

1.  6 project quilting quilts
2.  Rick's quilt
3.  Kyle's quilt
4.  Paul's quilt
5.  Craftster quilt that has many many blocks but i can't decide on how to put them together or quilt them.
6.  stash quilt
7.  Future Mini Art Quilt swap

Just this list seems very very ambitious to me.  But if I make good progress maybe I can add more.
