after watching NerdEcrafter's tutorial on youtube I made one myseld and here is the result:
For any Aussie's who want to try this please note the following:
- use Sculpey to make the fish, Fimo, even the soft kind is too hard to make them without making you feel like a failure. I got Sculpey at Spotlight. Fimo is at Lincraft and is ok for the decorations.
- the liquid acrylic she uses is crazy expensive here, about $60 for 200mls. I used Digger brand casting acrylic that I got at Bunnings. Remember to buy the Catalyst I had to go back to buy it they keep it under the counter at the paint desk. It was $26 for half a litre. It sets much faster than Jacky's acrylic, I came outside (do it outside the fumes are high) and found mine set hard and I hadn't put the fish in. I just put a but of the acrylic on my fish and glued them on then spooned acrylic around them and it worked fine. You can get the acrylic off your hands with nail polish remover.
- The mold was a silicone mini patty cake tin I simply bought at Kmart so my ponds are round. They work nicely.
I'm making a pile of these for christmas, I'll put a magnet on the back so it can go on the fridge. I chose not to put in any decorations like the grass that stick up so they wouldn't break off in transit.
Thanks again NerdEcrafter for the free tutorial it worked great!
