It's snack and share at preschool once again today.  baby.sweets4ever wanted to share his photos from Breakfast with Santa, so we made a complementary festive snack -- holiday trees! Smiley

Supplies
Wooden skewers
Cucumbers
Green apple
Star fruit (or a melon slice + a star cookie cutter!)
Optional "decorations" such as berries
Coconut flakes

Steps

Slice green apple in half.  Place one side, cut half down on a serving plate or tray.

Insert skewer into center of apple slice to create your tree trunk.  Make sure it's nice and straight.

Slice cucumber on an extreme diagonal.  Cutting diagonal slices will create longer branches for your tree. Smiley

Starting with the largest cucumber slices, thread the slices onto the wooden skewer.  Spread them out to create the base of your tree.

Keep threading slices onto the tree, using smaller slices as your tree gets taller.  This will naturally create the traditional pine tree shape for you.

When you get near the top, slice a star fruit to create your topper.  Top your tree with your star slice. Smiley  If you don't have star fruit available, you could use a cookie cutter to punch out a thick piece of cheese or slice of melon.

Decorate your tree!

Create simple garland with thread and berries, or use toothpicks to attach decorations.  I used thread to create blueberry garland.  I tied one end to the top of the skewer and the other end to a toothpick, which got jabbed into the cucumber branches near the bottom.

Set the scene with a sprinkling of coconut flake snow. Smiley

How cute would these trees be next to a gingerbread house?! Grin

And just for fun, here is one of the photos he wanted to share in class today.  Hard to believe baby.sweets4ever is over 5-years old now! Shocked

Super cute.  About how many cucumbers did you use for your three trees?
