I have been brainstorming a quilt idea in my head & in addition to some applique, I would like to embroider quotes onto it.  What I have been debating is whether it is a good idea to do the embroidery first and then longarm the quilt together, or longarm the quilt and then do the embroidery last.  I wasn't sure if the longarming/quilting would mess up the look of the embroidered letters.  But then I wasn't sure if the embroidery on top of the longarming would look weirdly puckered/distorted.  Has anyone else done this before?

I am collecting cotton Hawaiian fabric scraps for a quilt if you wanted to send any my way!

I recommend doing the embroidery before layering the quilt.  I wouldn't want the embroidery stitches showing on the back of the quilt.  Some quilts are as lovely on the back as the front as quilting can be very decorative.

Id ask your local long arm pro.   I would be worried the embroidery would snag while quilting. Any chance you could ebroider the square and applique it on after quilting?or would that look dumb?

Seeking scraps! I'm in need of a variety of white on white scraps. (2.5inch square minimum) for pixel quilts. Have any? Swap for? PM me! Smiley
