lacy 'sleeves'!

These are my attempt at making armwarmers that aren't so 'punky'...so they go well with slips/vintage nighties/petticoats etc.

The pink bits are 70% mohair/30%wool (filatura di crosa), the light purple is 50%mohair/50%wool (heirloom aristocrat). I wove some fake pearls into the purplish bits just above the pink, but you can't see them well in the photo. And they only took me about one hour each. I'm going to make lots of these in all different colours and lace patterns... good lace practice!

those are absolutely beautiful!  did you knit them in the round or flat and then sew them up?  Does anyone know good websites for lace knitting (this may have been addressed in another thread, I'm not sure)?  i was just thinking last night about making my mom a lace scarf for the summer.  she always complains about being cold in her office.

those are super lovely. What do the tops look like? did you use elastic? I think it could be cute to use satin ribbons tied in bows to hold he sleeves on. I love how girly and non-punk they are and i hope you post a pattern.

They are fabulous!!! I love wrist warmers. I'd also be interested how the top is made (elastic or not). Great job

I also like Marnie's idea of the ribbons. The top could be made with eyelets so the ribbon could be weaved through, and then tied in a bow.

one consideration with ribbon ties on sleeves: you'll need somebody to help you get dressed.

thanks for liking them! Ribbons would be no good for the top 'cause they'd slide down and you wouldn't be able to do them up yourself! use some thin elastic that looks like lace or some inconspicuous other elastic. I'm going to buy some today...

Hmm... haven't got the lace pattern here (at uni) but when I'm home I'll look for it. I made them flat, not in the round, because knitting lace i the round gets way confusing after a while and it's easier to lose stitches and stuff.
