A few years ago (in my lurking days Smiley ) I came across the wonderful Steampunk calendar
made by amaryllisroze. I remember coming back every now
and again looking at it, and wanting to do something similar. So when I came across
this little drawer cabinet, I knew what I wanted to do right away!

I went with a traditional Christmas-y colour scheme, and I'm so pleased with it Smiley

And a close-up to show the drawers a little better:

I was in such a rush to finish this in time for Dec. 1st, so no process shots.
And now I know that drawers 4x4 cm (inch and a half?)
are almost impossible to fill...  Roll Eyes

Oh, just grab some extra candies and snacks. And let everyone in on the mix? Pick a candy style?
Move the snacks drawer to drawer if you need to. And top each drawer with a special holiday ornament for the tree or bulletin board. Works for me! Why sweat the holidays. Relax and have fun. I like your project. A very festive idea! And great job with the traditional colors. Darn, now I want one.

This is lovely; you did a great job!

As for filling the drawers, look for miniature plastic animals, Hershey's kisses, folded up cash (always a favorite!), or what about writing activities, like watching a Christmas movie, drinking hot chocolate, or driving around to look at Christmas lights, on slips of paper and tucking those into the drawers?

You could also hide little gifts around the house and have each door contain a clue to that day's gift's whereabouts.  Smiley

Love it!  Perfect use for the cabinet.

About filling the drawers: my sister made me an advent calendar of small felt pouches several years ago, and we've been filling it for each other since. The pouches are approximately 4 cm too. The first time I received it she had put a piece of paper with a recipe into each pouch, and also a small surprise like candy, a sticker and once I got a small bag of saffron for the recipe of that day. This year was my turn to get the calendar again and so far I've received craft supplies: clear stamps, ribbons etc. Two years ago I got a metal puzzle from couple of pouches. I've filled it for her with glass beads, candy, tiny cookie cutters, paper craft supplies. For a kid you could also use small toys, like plastic animals.

Thanks for all the compliments and the great tips!

About the little gifts;

me and my husband decided to fill half of the drawers each. So far, I have received some adorable monster stamps, and import liqourice (he knows me too well *^_^* )
I found a dice game called "zombie dice", so everyday he gets a few dice and some Lindt chocolates (his favourites) with them. On the 6th (german holiday St Nikolaus), he got the rules and the box to keep the dice in. The advent calendar thing is SO huge here in Germany, I know couples that easily invest 100$+ in gifts for each other.
