You're welcome, Dulcet! How cool that an ancestor of yours did this process! I'm assuming by "farmed" this person grew the caterpillars and everything?  That's one step I'll never be able to do, because of where I live. But it was interesting to do this part of the process, that's for sure.

Thanks Ladies! Hopefully, instead of rolling over and going back to sleep for another hour, I wake up with my alarm tomorrow, and get at my wheel with that silk.  I will take pics and post them!

LOL  Yep, you definitely need a strong stomach for this process!  I won't deny getting the shivers  once in a while while doing this... Especially when one of the bugs actually touched my hand accidentally. I was using the end of the scissors to move them around, so i didn't have to touch them LOL

The boys were to busy playing video games to take note. LOL I did try to call them over, but they both just stared blankly into their screens.  The little one, miss jo, she saw and asked me if that was lunch in a concerned tone, which was hilarious. No honey, I won't feed you bugs for lunch!! LOL

Well, I have to admit when I saw the warning for vegans and then the cooking pot, I was wondering if you were making something edible. However, it is really a cool process, thanks for sharing! And I can't wrap my brain around how you made an oval cocoon into a square, I guess it stretches?

this is SO cool. I could never mess with it ( as much as I love bugs) I just can't stand worms...but wow. Way to take it to another level. Truly awesome! I can't wait to see more.

Thanks for the compliments, folks!!
I figured I'd err on the side of caution, as there's a topic about rendering fat from animals for soap making processes, and they used the caution too. I'd hate for someone who really finds taking of lives, even of bugs, really offensive.
As to how it goes from oval to square, yes it does stretch. It kind of becomes a weird gooey mess if you leave them in the solution, and they become more and more difficult to work with, but they do stretch out.  they'll go further too, but that's generally done in the prepping for spinning(or knitting) stage)
