how come my appliques look amazing when I do them , then after washing they look distorted. 
I pre wash all my fabric and shirts
I use a good cut away stabilizer
I dont know what i am doing wrong?

Perhaps laying them flat to dry and blocking them before would solve the issue.

Be sure you are not stretching the fabric when you are hooping it. Also, a BIG help is to use Wonder Under, under the applique fabric. This will make all the difference. Here is a helpful article.
