Tomorrow is baby.sweets4ever's turn for snack and share day at school, so here's what we whipped up this evening.  A fruit turkey (aka fruiturkey or fruit gobbler) with a side of corn on the cob. Cheesy

Supplies

A melon -- I used cantaloupe because it was least expensive
Fruits, vegetables and/or cheese of your choosing -- I used strawberries, blueberries, colby jack cheese slices and peppers
A pear for his head Smiley
Wooden skewers and/or toothpicks
A dream

Steps

Cut a small sliver off of your melon to create a flat base.

Skewer your fruits and veggies.

Stick 'em!  Cut a wooden skewer in half and use it to attach the pear to the cantaloupe.  Use toothpicks and other fruits/vegetables to create eyes and a beak.

Create the tail feathers with your large wooden skewers.

If you'd like, continue decorating with toothpicks to create smaller side feathers.  I used peppers for this step.

I also cut out simple triangles from peppers to create feet.

Supplies

Goldfish crackers (Corn Pops cereal would be awesome!)
Snack baggies
Tissue paper
Twine, raffia or yarn

Steps

So easy!  I just put them in snack bags, twisted the ends and tied with twine.

Our inspiration came from a Family Fun article last year! Smiley

Aweful cute. And a wonderful snack for the kids! It is amazing, but when you make it look fun...they will eat almost anything!  Grin And even better if they help, because they feel to be part of it. Great job. Happy Snack Day!

What a beautiful turkey. School food is quite tricky with having to remember everyone's special needs and you have managed to make it look like a feast.

So true!  He really loves to help in the kitchen, too.  I've had him in there with me since before he could walk.  Craftster for life! Cheesy

Thanks!  His teacher said poor turkey was plucked of all his feathers in no time. Cheesy

Thanks, elder!  It really is.  This is his first year in school and, wow, I had no idea.  I we have to avoid certain foods, slice certain foods special ways, etc.  Phew!

Thanks!  We have a little too much fun, I think. Cheesy

He was SO proud.  Random teachers stopped us in the hallway this morning to look at it and he'd say, "Check out my turkey!  He's silly.  We're going to eat his face." Cheesy  Haha.
