A while ago I was asked to make a large Penguin Suncatcher for auction to support the running costs of an online live trivia game site and 10 smaller ones as fixed price items. So, we borrowed some time at our local glass shop and cut out the penguins. I made the large one which was duly auctioned and just two of the smaller ones as take up seemed to be very slow. Actually, none of the smaller ones were sold at all! So I was left with them to use in some way myself: the two that I had already made were trimmed from the suncatchers (which had the site name on it) and became fridge magnets; three more became "The Three Wise Penguins" and the last five went into "Beware of Penguins Bearing Gifts".

"Penguins bearing gifts took a long time. First of all I had the slumping mould on order for an age, although I had already made the piece as soon as I knew they were not going to be sold. The mould arrived and then I found that it was one that needed to be elevated on kiln posts for use. My Skutt Firebox 14 comes with 3 kiln posts not the 4 I would need for this, so there was another delay. After slumping into the wave I then did the etching of the snowflakes on the back and on the front to give some extra dimension to the piece.
