One of the things that drew me to the OPS in the first place was that it wasn't formatted like the other Ongoing swaps. No chains, no super long lists, just a brief "Hey, here's my link" and go and stalk that way. So while I know some like the chains, this one is an outlet for an ongoing make what you want swap without that. I also agree that it can be a little bothersome when the only swaps are of the Ongoing variety so maybe a break from this one will help with that a little?

I figured the lack of participants lately was because of the holidays. The main thing I've getting from all of your responses is that once the new year rolls over it will be easier for people to get back into swapping.

Verdict:[/b[ The OPS will be on hiatus until January! It will make it a little easier on me, too. Thanks for all of your input, guys. And please, if you still want to discuss it go for it.

I would bet claims have dropped off more because of the time of year rather than anything to do with you Jexxican - I love seeing your name in a swap I am in.
Warm fuzzies! I didn't think it was because of me, but you never know. I know one person who will never be allowed in my swaps again because it sucked trying to communicate with her, but most of everyone on Craftster is really awesome and easy to talk to.

Weee we might haz new dryer (okay well its totally old and used, but if it runs still hooray!)
If it works, that means I can slowly save up for a new one and buy it later rather than try to dump a whole paycheck (or two) into it in one go, which means more monthly funding for swapage-goodnessness!

I gotta agree with that totally Jexxi.... I'm not really a list maker, its off-putting to me to have to sit down, think of stuff and make a list of it (especialllllly when its things I would like to have either for myself or family) And aside from the free-to-stalk-&-choose-away format of the OPS, I like the fact that I can claim anyone at anytime without having to wait for someone else to claim because the last person on the list has a ton of stuff I cant make xD...perhaps I'm just awkward like that though I guess xD

Tenitsu, I agree with you about the benefit of the OPS is that you can choose anyone, at any time.  I love the OWS, but it's a downer having to constantly monitor the lists to see if you can claim the last person on the list.  I also love it that way, b/c you can then also do a bit of "research" to make sure that the item you are claiming is something that is in your ability range.

I enjoyed the other ongoing swaps I've done - but postage outside the UK or Europe just got too hefty to be doing a couple of times a month. With the pinterest swap, I had more freedom to choose who to tag, so I could judge what my finances are like, and so tailor my participation accordingly.
But I had to drop out becasue not many people from those side of the pond joined and so postage was still generally quite expensive. (I guess the same is true in reverse - I didn't get picked too much, because people can't afford to post to me either.) So, feeling like I had to tag a couple of people becasue I'd signed up, the cost just got too much. That's a bit easier to control with normal swaps, becasue I can know for definite how many packages it will be before I sign up.
I know this isn't the most constructive remark, but I just wanted you to know there are other reasons people aren't joining, it's not a personal thing Smiley

Thanks, noodle-bug. Definitely constructive feedback. I know I can't personally afford to send overseas anymore so I totally get that reason. But another thing about the OPS is that you can look and see who else from your side of the pond has signed up and if you want to claim them before you join. Grab a Coffee is from Hungary and she joins a lot. I love that! I have a feeling from the remarks on here that the January swap will be a bit bigger than the last few this year so maybe we will see you again sometime.

Really glad the OPS isn't disappearing! I really enjoyed the July round, but fell off because I got new job and started uni again. Would love to do the January round! When would sign-ups go up?
