I have been promising my friend Maremare a pair of fingerless mitts forever!  I love making socks and mitts but sometimes, I get pretty bored with making the same pattern...I finally bought a book with various knit stitches in them and found that, for both the socks and mitts, I can follow a standard pattern and just change up the stitches!

So, here I tried a basketweave pattern (this pattern was actually in a book ( called Under 100 Knits by KnitPicks) as I did not want to mess up the pattern experimenting on my friend! Grin):

Her picture is better as you can see the pattern better:

The yarn is a fingering weight twist called Hawthorne Yarn by KnitPicks.  The color is a a grey-brown.

Now to make a pair for my friend lindyv321! Grin

Love the basket weave pattern! It makes a basic pattern all fancy! The color is great too!

Interesting basket wave pattern. I like how the mittens have a long part around the wrist so cold air won't pass at the junction with the coat.

You were so patient, mare...but I know you are also so kind, so I am sure if your mom really wants them, you are going to give in...so maybe I should start working on another pair for you STAT! Grin

Nice  Grin  I like the longer thumb, most I've seen don't really have much of one.  I also like the longer wrist section.

thanks Homerof2!

While I like the idea of being able to have my fingers free to type or do most things, they are still suppose to keep your hands as warm as possible...I try to make mine fit snugger in the wrist to stay put, longer so that they fill the gap if you wear a coat or sweater, and as far up the fingers and thumb so that if you had to, you could almost pull them up or snug your fingers in...

I hate winter...Grin
