Hi guys! This year I sent my husband a bunch of links from pinterest of couples costumes to get our creative juices flowing. My husband liked the look of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox - so I used the photos as inspiration.

I'd never made a dress before, nor had I used the dress form I'd been given a few years back, however, I can no longer say either of those things because after a weeks time staying up way too late and improvising darts, etc. I was able to make a dress with matching gauntlets and spats.

Ta- Dah!

The horns - I sculpted using air dry clay, once they were dry, I brushed glue on them and sprinkled white glitter over top. I happened to have a wide black fabric headband that worked perfectly to sew the horns onto. I used silver thread and was impressed with how well the horns held and how smooth it was to sew through the clay.

The cow bell I scored at Party City, along with the fake nose ring. The stickers spelling out Babe I found at Michaels as well as the faux fur for the gauntlets and spats.

Everything was worked off of the dimensions I took of my body which I then transferred to the dress form. I figured it out as I went.. though lots of grumbling was done, I assure you... in the end, when the people at the Halloween party thought I'd bought the dress and that the cowbell was custom engraved, etc. I'd say it all paid off and turned out nicely. Paul Bunyan (the husband) had many accolades for me pretty much all night due to the outfit, he's a keeper Wink. It was worth the time I bothered to spend on it, though I'll admit being hella tired by the time we got to the Halloween party from the nights I'd stayed up too late working on it. XD

Anywhoo - I hope you like the photos! You can see a few more here as well! (complete with my Pual Bunyan Wink Tee Hee!) Happy Halloween!

What a cute idea and you executed it perfectly.  You look great.  Plus I think you will be able to get a lot of use out of that dress.

The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. . . . I would rather have cheese.

Thank you so much Ella! Smiley The husband really liked the blue/black color combination, so I'll won't be packing the dress away with the rest of the costume . It was pretty comfy and held up nicely through the night so I'm down to give it another go! Smiley Thank you again for your comments! Smiley I appreciate them!

Oh you are the cutest Blue Ox!!!  I think you picked out the important parts to make the costume recognizeable...the bell is just perfect...and the leg things...very nice idea...was your hubby as cute as you in his Paul Bunyan outfit?  I bet you guys were adorable together!

Thank you alwaysinmyroom! Smiley

Yes, The mister was dressed up to compliment my costume nicely. We bought a plaid shirt, suspenders and an axe for him, but the beard and stature is all his own.

Here's a pic of us before we headed out. More pics are here too. Smiley
