I'm sure I will! I checked my box before I left work and no luck. I'll try again on Thursday or Friday!

So this is how I plan to put my bird fabric art journal together. I popped into the discount fabric store and picked up these upholstery samples for $1.25 each. These pieces are linen-ish and the blue piece is velour.

They pieces measure about 24" x 36" so I can cut several pages from each piece.

I ironed on super heavy stabilizer because I want stiff and sturdy pages.

And now I will sew the art pieces made by you fabulous swappers. I'm just trying to figure out how to add your names...maybe with paper. Hmmmm, can't decide yet.

I also bought these two pieces - with birds! I might use the red piece for the cover.

My worst enemy is over-thinking things before actually doing them - hence my closet full of half-finished projects. But I am trying to loosen up. I will applique the two pieces I have and add tags and try not to think or over-think this project.

You are not the only over thinker! Still laughing about your share. My gosh. Are you on the other side of my mirror???

Additional idea. Dumpster diving. The samples get thrown out. And if you get to know the sales people, they will help you to get them for free! ...Well, bring them a cup of coffee, and some cookies.  Grin They will save the samples for you before they throw them out. They are happy, as then they don't have to carry them to the trash!

That is how I have gotten a lot of my stash, anyway. Cheesy

I was thinking of making fabric covered cardboard or thin plywood for the covers...these being decorated as well. Then sewing ties to the left side of each piece, which would then tie to the cover. How. Well I'm still visioning that.

1. Ring binders, drill/punch holes in the cover and put in the rings. Then tie the pages to the rings.
2. Accordion or fan fold binding. Sew a strip of fabric to the left side of the page. Then glue or sew into one of the zig zags on the fan spine (Google accordion or fan binding).
3. Sew a piece of fabric covered cardstock to the left side and use the ring binders to hold. Rings could be covered in ribbon, beads, etc.

Any more ideas?

Thanks, stillatthehop. I have an interior decorator dad (of one of my students) who gives me bags and bags of samples. Most are small so I can make a smaller book with them but not for this project. I am also sewing a bunch together to make play mats for the kids - a city-themed one and a farm-themed one.

And cmarion3 - oh, no! More ideas! Yikes! We'll be making pages until forever!

I love the idea of a circle book too - posted in the Gallery thread. That sounds fun and challenging.

I get silk and linen scraps from my sister in law who works part time in a frame shop. They cover the mats with fabric. Lovely stuff. I kind of hoard it, silly of me, but I love using the scraps in collages and prayer flags and Yes, I did use some in the fabric page. Free fabric and samples is so much fun.

I like your ideas!  I am leaning toward a floppy book...I sort of like the feel of the fabric books for kids so I am thinking of maybe using some lightweight muslin to line them and then use the plain pages to write or take notes...I also like the idea of themed books...ha ha...so many ideas that we actually could be making these forever!! Grin

It will be interesting when we get enough pages to see how we bind them...I especially like the idea of tying to ring binders...which, by the way, my company has TONS of vinyl ring binders that are about 5x7...we are going to dump them, so I am going to bring them home and shove them in the garage (no one tell my husband!!)...they might be useful for this project...hmmm, 100 binders...that will be a lot of pages... Grin
