Pumpkin scraping is a lot like pumpkin carving, but much easier. You don't have to worry about your things falling apart when you cut them out. I like using a linoleum cutter or an Xacto gouge. In the past before we had those tools we used bottle openers, lemon zesters, xacto knives, wood carving tools, sculpting tools, anything that would scrape off the outer layer of the pumpkin.
1. Draw on your design
2. scrape your design - the hardest part is deciding what to scrape and what to outline
3. Light your pumpkin! If your design doesn't show up. Don't worry, just scrape the inside of the pumpkin with a plastic lid or spoon to thin the pumpkin walls without messing up your design.
4. Light your pumpkin again!!!

** We always cut out the bottom of our pumpkins so that the lid doesn't fall in. Also we use Christmas lights to light them up. Much easier than candles and you can have a whole string of them for ALL your pumpkins. I use a sharpie or an ink pen to draw on my pumpkin. To clean that up use a little hand sanitizer on a rag or paper towel. The alcohol in it takes off the ink. Spit works in a pinch  Wink

So far this year I have carved 51 pumpkins and I'm not done yet!!!
