We had a SNOW DAY today!!! (Yes, Virginia Beach got like... 2-3" of snow. That is seriously all it takes to shut us down. We don't know how to handle snow/ice very well... We know it.)

As you can see, I made an attempt at giving Georgie an appropriate snow outfit (poncho and scarf should be sufficient for the brief time we spent outside). I tried to help him make a little Georgie-sized snowman but it wasn't the packing kind and I lost all feeling in my fingers.

For lots more photos (including proof that the City of Virginia Beach is a little confused on what to do to road-snow), check the blog:

Last Saturday we got to see an NHL game. Yes, folks, Tampa Florida DOES have a professional ice hockey team! Grin The Tampa Bay Lightning were hosting the San Jose Sharks in an afternoon game and we got tickets from a friend of Love's at work and off we went!

In the heart of Downtown Tampa is the home stadium for the Lightning, the Tampa Bay Times Forum. (Don't let the sunshine and palm trees fool you. It was COLD that day - high only around 48F - and in fact, it was warmer in the building full of ice than it was outside. LOL)

There's a big courtyard area where they set up a stage with a band, entertainment and such during most games.

Here's the view from our seats at center ice. The Forum holds over 19,000 people for an NHL game and has a slightly large jumbo tron:

I took this shot from the top of the 1st tier to get a better idea of the view:

We had a really great time! (Even if the Lightning wound up losing 5-4. Boo.)

One thing I really wanted to make sure I did was get Willow to the Manatee Viewing Center. But man, everything was against us that day! The boardwalk really close to the shore where you get the prime viewing for the manatees? None there. See, the viewing center is at the Big Bend power plant and the warm salt water they use to cool the plant goes back out into the bay and attracts manatees to winter in the warmer-than-normal water. But that day? They weren't releasing the warm water at the close boardwalk so the only place to see them was waaaay down the back side of the center and all the way across the water from the plant out in deeper water. Combine that with unexpected rain and we just did NOT get the kind of photos I had hoped for.

It is first and foremost a power plant. Which is just weird background for animal viewing!

Most of the day was like this. Hey is that darkish blob one?  Undecided

Though it's hard to see, this is a calf (left) and momma (right) This was the best chance the entire day to see them close but the pictures just did not come out very good at all.

I was so bummed because I really tried to plan just the right day to go. (I read colder days are better so I waited for a cold day. And then they go and turn off the warm water that specific day. And it rained. Arg!) Willow did SEE manatees, but I don't really have great photos to prove or share that with everyone. Cry

Florida girl, here. That is a wonderful stadium. I live in TN now. Did you go to Sun City Center to see the manatee? They have a full observatory there. I don't remember a power plant, though. But the manatee are plentiful. We had a restaurant in New Port Richey, FL that named a drink after our local manatee. "Blue Lagoon", and one called "Baby Blue" for the calf. Curicou based. The restaurant is Sea Side Inn. Right on the water off US 19. You can dock your boat and come in for snacks downstairs and more fancy dinners upstairs, too. It burned down at one time, but they re-built it. I think it is still there. Just south of Holiday, FL. Yup they are! Here is the facebook for them https://www.facebook.com/pages/Seaside-Inn/115993131744308

I really love seeing all the little adventures. I can't imagine the looks everyone gives you when you are holding up your little dolls for pictures  Grin They must wonder, "what the heh?" But stick it in their ear. It is fun all the same.
Thanks for sharing. I don't get many adventures these days. It is fun to tote along with your shares and see new things.

Well hopefully the blobbish shape in the water is discernible enough to tell they are manatees. LOL Turns out when they're in deeper water, they don't look like much. Cheesy

I took Jimmie and Emma to a baby concert by the Cologne philharmonic orchestra society. They both loved it!

The Norfolk campus is borrowing me for their library for a couple days... I was supposed to be there yesterday, but snow day! Today we didn't open til noon so I was a little early... parked at the mall and went in search of a Norfolk mermaid!

(Georgie is down front in the seat cushion!)

These mermaids are all over the city of Norfolk, each decorated by a local artist. There's one for the hockey team, one at the medical school (which Clyde visited last year: http://clydeinvb.blogspot.com/2013/05/norfolk-excursion.html), several along different roads... they're all over the place.

Tomorrow I'm hoping the weather should be a little better so we can take a little walk at lunch and find all sorts of neat things (including another Norfolk mermaid across the street from the library!)
