Hi Everyone
Sorry it took so long to reply, but it took FOREVER to finish. The border ended up being  about 75g per round! But I am sure you will agree it looks gorgeous. My friend is so happy with it. And it looks FANTASTIC in her room.
I went with layout 6 in the end because I liked the effectof the "S" pattern gradually changing color. But because the blanket is square, you could also have it so that there were rows of color.
Joined it in strips. Did row 1, 3, 5 and joined with the evens rows. Then did the border.
Photos were taken in a bed store. All the stores round where I live have got used to me coming in with random blankets to put on their beds. Lol

Border I made up with some brides and a join. Came out looking like a pinkingedge which i was going for.
So happy with the whole project. It looks so cool
Thank you all for your help and opinions in choosing the layout.

That blanket is just plain gorgeous. Love the border and the black contrast. I'm still in love with the color pattern. Great work. (lol. love the story about the bed store...great idea BTW.)

Lol. I just noticed that the close up I took on an angle is actually upside down! Lol. The circle is actually a 3D flower! Lol
