Yesterday I made a small cat and colored it with pastels for the first time. It had baked fine and after it had cooled I painted on the first layer of glaze (I used Sculpey Gloss glaze). Not long after I noticed that it had started to bubble on the head around the ears and on the back of the head and one of the sides it had peeled back (think of old paint peeling) and it flaked off completely.

I'm totally stumped. I've never used pastels before but I have used this glaze so I cannot figure out what went wrong. Could it be the pastels? I just picked up some cheap ones at the craft store the other day as I read that you didn't need a specific brand besides it being chalk pastels.

Any help would be appreciated!

Perhaps because Polymer clay is petroleum based plastic the paint may not have been able to adhere properly? Acrylic paints work well with poly clay as they are pretty much plastic!  Smiley
