Have you ever tried to make magazine bowls? (like this: http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/thelondongardentradingco/product/set-of-three-recycled-magazine-bowls)

I'm not quite ready to make another one since it was soooo time consuming. The result was very pretty, however.

I cut and folded the strips in front of the TV so it wasn't that bad. Wink The thing that slowed me down the most was that I used a very small magazine so the strips ended up quite short. I also insisted on trying to find the most colourful pages...

I cut up one of the college brochures and made a pair of paper bead earrings. I'd tried making beads from the skinny strips before, and oh,they were lumpy! So I thought I'd try a tube bead this time. They're larger than I like to wear, and the seams aren't great, but it's practice! I put a scrap of scrapbook paper on the outside.

Paper beads:
They are not time consuming! If you are in front of the TV you can always stop to watch the good parts! Try them out, they are fun!!! I love the triangle ones, but have also mastered the more advanced ones that combine a barrel in the center with two triangle panels on either side on each bead. I wish I had pics to share. They went off in a bead swap. I will have to make more. They don't have to be magazines...you can craft from regular paper of any kind. (flexible, though).

Tute I shared used Elmer's Glue, but I like a glue stick, as I spray them with clear acrylic spray (or paint them) to seal them afterward. Just have a spare scrap of paper as a place mat, and run glue stick over the end piece. (Place mat paper to catch any mess!) I make them at my coffee table sitting under the table on the floor (pillow optional  Grin)

I run my materials of choice in my printer with a pattern for the width of triangle I wish. Cut on the lines, and start at the big end of the triangle for wrapping, and work down twirling until near the point, then glue. Once you get the hang of it, you don't even have to look much at what you are doing.

I have to get daughter here to hook up my camera with me. (New camera, and cyber dummy myself Grin) or I could share some images, but they are really easy. Google "paper bead tutorial". There are tons out there to show you how. It is easy and FUN!!!!!

Double post...sorry mods but this one needs a place of it's own.

Would you all stop with your "time consuming"Huh We are here to encourage each other, and that just urks me. And puts other members off from trying.
Life takes time, art takes time, enjoying life takes time. Get over it. If members don't have the time to craft?Huh

I am all for multi-tasking, and my life takes me off of my projects, too, but I fit it in. Time consuming or not. Skip washing your hair and get on a project one day, or do your banking online so you don't waste time in the drive-thru.

Sorry. Just had to vent. Feel free to delete this, but I think members should know it. I really don't put up with whiners. If they don't have time to craft, than quit doing it!

Practically all my gifts this year for the holiday season are recycled paper bowls and dishes that have been glossed and will be filled with gingerbread. The first is hard but after that it gets a lot easier as you just get into the motions. I do them while watching movies, after a while you just start to get into the motions naturally. Cut lots of strips, prepare them, glue roll glue roll glue roll and so on.

Edit: I'll post a picture of one of my things that isn't quite a bowl sometime soon.
