The black outline is an irregular stem stitch around the felt with three strands of DMC. I say irregular because I didn't take care to keep the stitches the same length--I just wanted them to provide a heavy line.

And thanks! I've been stitching for a couple of years, and I think this is my favorite project I've made so far. Felt IS so much fun!
