I have a collection of polished stones and a jar of glass etching cream, and I was wondering what would happen if I put them together.  I picked out stones that I felt represented the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water, then used fabric paint to paint a symbol for each element on its corresponding stone.  I used Armour Etch for the etching.

The etchings didn't turn out as dramatic as I hoped they would, particularly on the air stone, but I like them.  Smiley

Earth

Air - I couldn't get a picture that showed the symbol and also wasn't yellow.  Undecided

Fire

Water

The "before" picture does a much better job of showing what each symbol looks like:

I really like how you paired the rocks with the elements - especially water. The rock really looks like water! So nice!

I agree. Your choice of stones and symbols was quite inspired.

Thanks everyone!  The water stone was the reason I decided to use the four elements as the theme for my stone-etching experiment, I saw the ocean every time I looked at it.

You could try rubbing a little black or brown ink or paint onto the etched part, and then rubbing off most of it to add some definition to the designs.  They are so well done, they should really shine!  (or the opposite, since they are etched *grins*)

Cool craft! The symbols work well for the stones you picked to depict them!

That's an awesome idea! Well done. I can totally see the air symbol faintly.
