I made this for my 2 year old nephew.

The granny square is one I modified 2 years ago for my neices pixelated tinkerbell blanket so there's no holes. The brown border is added thru the backloops as another round which gives a nice line seperation. Than another round with a single crochet than finally the reverse single crochet [crab stitch] for the coil effect.

The head ball was crochet VERY VERY tightly [so the stuffing wouldn't peek through as much].. I mean tight enough that it left a dark red indent in my skin for a few hours afterwards. The arms I made through trial and error as well as the ears and muzzle. The brown spot on the muzzle is a small triangle made with single crochets and whipstitched the the already attached muzzle.

The eyes are safety ones I found at my sisterinlaws yarn store [they just got them in and I cleaned them out, lol!]. I used paper and shaped the background for the eyes to sit in I guess... eyelashes perhaps..? I dunno but it looks cool. Was missing something until I added it. I used brown felt I bought last christmas from the hobby lobby when I wetn cross border shopping in Buffalo, NY. I cut 2 tiny slits as a + and popped in the eyes then put them into position and added the washer to lock it into place.

The mane took literally all day while I babysat my nephews[2 years and 8 years..the 8 year old had to stay home from school due to an allergic reaction to peanuts so he was bouncing off the walls due to the allergy meds so I had to keep stopping].

At one point the lion looked like a hippy jesus which made me laugh and laugh [really wish I took a picture.. all it needed was a pipecleaner eyeglasses and a bong, lmao].

He got about 3 haircuts before my sisterinlaw and I agreed his hair looked good enough.

I forgot to take measurements but I'd venture a guess that it's about 18-20 inches squared.

I really loved making this and playing around until I got what I wanted.. Thank god I wrote down everything I did incase I wanted to make it again [might sell some at SIL store since she was so shocked by how good it looked, lol].

What a lovely blanket.  The little lion is adorable. He will make a sweet comforter for your nephew.
