My Mom, Nansi Bainard, is having an exhibit of her miniature quilts and wall hangs at the White Bluffs Fiber Museum in Richland Washington.  The show will be up until Oct.5 2013.  I've been talking about it on some of the forums and folks were wanting to see some pics, so I thought I'd share the show here Grin

The first quilt I want to show you is called Time Line.  It was done as her entry into the challenge for the Tri-Cities Quilt show of 2000, and it won the viewers choice award..

Now some close up pics..

The reason it is called Time Line is the fabrics are arranged by age.  The very bottom ones start in the 1800's and travel upwards in time through the 40's and into the currant time.

The "2000" fabrics was what they were given for the challenge..

This section, near the middle, is a block called trip Around The World and in this case it really is.  The fabrics are from all over the world, England, Australia, Spain, France...and A few more that I can't remember right now..

And here is the rest of her collection.  We hope you enjoy it Grin (and sorry about the sun glare on some of them.  I'll try to take some new photos of those soon..)

These are some of her earlier pieces dating as far back as the 80's.  The brightly colored one in the upper left is called "Attempt at Amish".  She had read about Amish Quilts but had never seen any, and didn't know that they used more muted tones, nor do they miter corners.

She uses the 3D bow tie technique to make her bow ties.  And large Stacked Bricks is a true charm quilt (which means that there are no repeats of any of the fabrics.  Each brick is unique and the boarders and binding are also unique)

The quilt at the top is called "Grandmothers Flower Garden".  It was done completely by hand, English paper pieced style.  It has traveled the country to many quilt shows and has won her over $1,000 in prize money.

The white one in the upper left is called "Fiesta Sugar Bowls" and she matched the different color fabric bowls to the actual Fiesta Wear dish line.  The white is Fairy Frost fabric and it sparkles like sugar.

The quilt on the bottom left is called "Are My Boarders Too Wide?".  It was made for a guild challenge called It's Crazy and it had to be larger then 16 inches square.  The tiny quilt in the center is a crazy quilt and she added the wide boarders to fill the requirements.

The four small quilts on the bottom half are all fussy cut.  Fussy cutting is where one cuts the fabric one piece at a time to utilize a pattern in a certain way.

My Mom has developed a line of quilt patterns and this panels is some of them.

and some more patterns..

She has taught Mariners Compass classes all over the Pacific North West.

Egg basket and Mini Egg Basket from her pattern line as well.

The bottom piece is one of her most recent quilts.  She made it for the wedding of a family friend's grandson.  The wedding colors were grey and yellow.

Here is my hand and her two smallest quilts, so you can see just how small she can go.

These are in the display case at the show.  Green one in the back left is called "It Could Have Been Orange!" because she loves orange and folks used to give her a hard time about that.  The large one on the right was her entry into a shop hop challenge.  The small squares of fabric at the bottom were given out at each shop and they all had to be used in the piece.

The large one on the right is called "What a Hoot?".  It's title came from my Dad and I both seeing it as a large abstract owl.

And last but not least..

My mom

Thanks for looking Grin

Thanks everyone!   My mom was so happy to see how many of my craftster friends got to see her stuff.  She was touched by all of your comments.  Don't give me too much credit for the little speeches about her quilts though.  I've just been involved so often in setting up her things, that I kind of know most of them by heart.  I also original organized her book, so that helps me know them all too Grin

Wow is all I can say! Dynamic colors, designs, and very interesting collection of variety in the patterns. Can you ever get her from the sewing machine to dinner table, or does she just eat there???  Wink

These are just all so amazing. What a talent your mother has.  As I scrolled through I kept saying "this is my favourite one", then I gave up cos there were so many to choose a favourite.

Everyone is being so sweet!  Thanks Grin

I tried to get her into craftsers Racky, but she is intimidated about the computer part of it all.  But maybe next time I come down to see them, I will see about getting it set up for her so it would be easier for her to deal with.

She does a very good job of balancing quilting with reality heheh.  My Dad has never gone hungry because of her needing to finish a quilt Grin.  But that is one of the nice things about minis and wall hangings....they go much faster then full sized quilts!

Thank you for posting this- I have been asking myself for a long time what a quilt show actually is- and now I know! We don't have things like that over here- and I am amazed at the skill displayed. I think quilting is a beautiful tradition and I applaud everyone who keeps it alive.

There is just one question- how do you keep yourself from touching them? All the little signs warning off sticky fingers are just adorable, but for the life of me I couldn't keep myself from feeling all the wonderful fabrics under my fingers Wink So I guess it's a good thing I don't get to go to these shows..

.. and of course, I can't pick a favourite, but I am very intrigued by all the wonderfully complicated patterns Wink

Lots of quilt shows have what is called White Glove Ladies.  Which are volunteers who offer white cotton gloves so that folks can handle the quilts and lift to see the backs.  They did offer them at the event, but we were not told about his so Mom was just being careful.  It is because humans all have different acid levels and after a time, that can show on the quilts.  But if one is wearing gloves (especially white ones with red polka dots (sorry an inside joke)) the quilts are protected. (and you would SO get to touch everything if you got to come and see them live Sweetling Grin)
