DIY revolution

This is my first post in the More Art, Less Craft forum... Wasn't even sure what to title this masterpiece... but I got the idea directly from Mark Montano's Big-Ass Book of Crafts, my FAVORITE book, and I made this as a gift for my friends' upcoming wedding.

I strayed a bit from the materials Mark Montano used, based on what I had- instead of gluing the branches onto colored paper and framing it in a picture frame, I spray painted a canvas that I had painted a simply hideous picture on that had been hiding under the bed, then built a frame out of balsa which I painted brown and glued right onto the canvas. It was my first time ever touching balsa and it was fun! You can't tell much in the pictures, but I spray painted the branches red, which I think looks awesome on the light blue background and makes it more playful. Oh, and I cut the flowers out of text from old issues of Bitch magazine  Grin Overall, I'm happy with how it turned out.

Does it need more flowers?

Good job on making it work with what you've got -- it turned out great!  And I like the simplicity of it, so I'd say don't add anything.

Scholars and artists...differ most importantly in the way their knowledge is come by.  Scholars get theirs with conscientious thoroughness along projected lines of logic; poets...stick to nothing deliberately, but let what will stick to them like burrs where they walk in the fields.
