Hi everyone, I'm new to craftser! I'm wondering if any of you can give me some advice on this project. I really want to make a mother of pearl case for my phone, a bit like these: http://www.purseblog.com/images/2013/07/Rafe-Shell-iPhone-5-Cases.jpg But those are really expensive and don't cover the front edges of the phone...

So I noticed that they sell lots of different sheets of very thin mother of pearl on ebay. (For example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pcs-black-mother-of-pearl-shell-veneer-sheet-inlay-blanks-9-45-x-5-5-premium-/171002475293?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item27d08ab31d )

I thought about getting a clear phone case and cutting the pearl-sheet to fit inside of it but I don't think that would look very nice since the case might cover the pretty/metallic quality of the pearl. I'm also thinking about getting a silver case and sticking the pearl-sheet to the outside of that but I imagine that afterwards I'd need to coat the sheet with something(?). Do any of you have ideas or advice? I'd love to hear what you have to say! Thanks  Grin

Those cases are really pretty!

I think your second idea would work well! I wonder if you'd really need to cover it with anything? You wouldn't want to diminish the opalescence of the mother of pearl. That sheet is big enough that if your first one got scratched, you could make another Smiley.

Hm that's a good point actually, I'm gonna do that. I'm glad I got a second opinion, so thank you! I'll come back and post a pic of the result, hopefully it comes out nice : )
