i've updated this tutorial with s few more pictures, hope it will help a little bit more. but as i mentioned try to look at a tie when going trough the steps, it makes it easier to understand.

here's how to make a simple tie:
i used this pattern for my tie in a previous post

you need 4 pieces, two big ones for the tie itself and two smaller triangles for the backsides.

it might be easier to understand the instructions if you look at "real" tie when making it yourself
my pieces looked like this (we use metric measurements in sweden, sorry...):

as you might see, part 2 is completely straight but part 1 is a bit "curved" in its shape

1. cut out all 4 pieces and put stiffening on them
2. put part 1 and 2 right sides toghter, sew along the green mark

press seams, now you have the tie in its complete length, see picture below

3. put the big triangle at the larger end of the tie, right sides toghether, sew along the green line, trim and turn

4. do the same thing with the small triangle, now you have something like this:

5. fold the tie along the long side, right sides togheter and sew along green line, don't sew all the way to the end! it's easier to turn it if you leave about 2 cm un-sewn

6. the tricky part is now to turn the whole thing inside out... it takes a while!

that's it!!
good luck and please let me know if something is unclear!

how about making it out of some special fabric or putting some text, a picture or embroidery on it, it could become a very personal gift...

i'll try to help you if you specify what is unclear...
is it the pictures, the instructions or just the whole thing itself?

That's not very polite!
If you read it slowly step by step then it does make sense... and if you don't get it, it doesn't mean you need to be rude, you could ask nicely!

sorry about that!  i really wasn't trying to be rude, i swear....sometimes what i want to say comes out wrong when i type it out  Undecided
...and the fact that i was really tired at the time might have helped in that.....

pretty much the whole thing, i guess...i tried to make it by following all the instructions, but it turned out horribly wrong, heh  Embarrassed
...i know i was confused on how exactly the pieces were layed on top of each other, where exactly you sew them, and i didn't get step 5 at all.
...i think it might have helped if you had in-progress pictures of the actual tie

It made no sense to me either.  Don't feel bad.

I don't know, the whole thing just confused me as well.  And I agree, maybe a picture tut would be helpful.  Because I really would like to make a tie.
