Hi, I have just returned from a holiday in Italy and rather ambitiously bought a knitting book!  I am trying to translate it but am wondering if anyone can tell me what 1⁰ - or any number followed by a superscript zero means?  I think I may have bitten off much more than I can chew!!

Appreciate any help.

How is it used? It could mean first or it could indicate the needle size, just depends where it appears.

Hi Sue

pattern reads 1⁰ e 5⁰f: 1m, rov etc, etc.  I think it may mean rows 1 and 5 or rows 1 to 5?  However, I can only see 2⁰, 3⁰ and 7⁰ after that so am still confused as doesn't seem to be a row 6!  Think I have made a bit error buying this book but I won't give up - yet.

I have a translation cheat sheet - 'm' is stitch, 'rov' is purl, the 'f' is probably for 'ferro' or row. So yeah, looks like 1st to 5th row.... Whatever it says for row 2 is probably what you do on al WS/even number rows.

Here's some links to knitting dictionaries in different languages, not sure which ones have Italian...

And this thread at craftster from way back - http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=129918.0 - which I copied all the posts with terms into a text file.

Thanks for the advice, I think I have now sorted the problem, with the help of a transcription sheet and your help.
